The life size replica wall at St James’s Church, Piccadilly for Bethlehem Unwrapped.
St James’s Church, Piccadilly, in London’s West End has installed a life size 8 metre tall/30 metre long replica of Israel’s security wall in its courtyard as part of its Bethlehem Unwrapped festival. The replica wall is so vast that it obscures the Church itself.
The replica wall will be lit up at night and for the next twelve days of Christmas (until 5th January) a montage of images and slogans will be continuously projected onto it. Scenes include parts of London with a wall passing through it.
What you won’t see projected onto the replica wall are scenes of bombed out Israeli buses, hotels, pizza restaurants, bars and nightclubs that were ubiquitous in Israel before the wall.
Bethlehem Unwrapped has evening events with anti-Israel polemicists including comedians Jeremy Hardy and Ivor Dembina, musician Nigel Kennedy, columnists Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and Mark Steel, Jeff Halper of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions and War On Want’s in-house poet Rafeef Ziadah.
Maybe Ivor Dembina will reprise his notorious Holocaust “joke” in which he mocks the Jewish people for wanting to hog the Auschwitz limelight. According to Dembina Jews don’t really want others to know that gays, gypsies and the disabled were also murdered at Auschwitz because we like to see it as “Ourschwitz, not Yourschwitz”.
Had someone made a joke about, for example, Srebrenica they would rightly be excluded but Dembina, host of the Hampstead Comedy Club, is one of the star turns at Bethlehem Unwrapped.
Or maybe poet Rafeef Ziadah will reprise her praising of Islamic Jihad chief Khader Adnan. Adnan, you may recall, is keen to incite Palestinians to become suicide bombers and blow up innocent Israeli children.
Unbelievably, into this political hatefest have stepped the supposedly “non-political” chefs Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi. They will be hosting the “Bethlehem Feast” at the church on Friday January 3rd.
Last night’s unveiling of the replica wall was introduced by St James’s Church Rector Lucy Winkett.
Rector Winkett said the reason behind the replica wall was that when 20 of them visited Israel and the Palestinian territories in October “one of the lasting memories of our time there was this wall” (see clip).
It is a shame Rector Winkett didn’t also visit the graves of Israeli children murdered by Palestinian suicide bombers or Israelis left disabled by them.
The microphone was then handed to Jeff Halper of Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions who left those who made it to the church despite the dreadful weather conditions in no doubt as to what the next twelves days of Bethlehem Unwrapped had in store. Halper has previously expressed his wish to boycott Israel out of existence.
Last night Halper described Israel’s security wall as a “very deadly barrier that people cannot pass” and said “this wall is not built for security…it doesn’t protect Israelis in any way”. He continued “the wall defines the borders of the Israeli bantustan that is being created for Palestinians in an apartheid state…it defines those cantons in which Palestinians will be confined” (see clip below).
I understand that there are due to be a couple of last minute voices putting Israel’s case at the panel debate with Halper “Both sides of the Barrier: Separation or Security?” on January 4th but it is a drop in the ocean when compared to what is taking place over the entirety of the festival.
During the festival members of the public are being invited write on the wall. The address of St James’s Church is 197 Piccadilly. It’s very close to Piccadilly Circus tube station. Feel free to head away from the sales for a few minutes to balance out the hate and the lies. But take a good pen with you.
This replica wall has possibly cost thousands of pounds. There have been designers, architects, curators, materials, scaffolding and a team of builders. With mouths to feed and people freezing to death in this country alone it is shameful that St James’s Church, Piccadilly, has squandered so much on what is nothing more than an anti-Israel propaganda exercise.

Hadas Fogel, three months old, was killed by terrorists on March 11, 2011. The terrorists confessed that they left the Fogel home after murdering Hadas’ parents and two sleeping brothers but returned to murder Hadas when they heard her start crying.

A true story…..
“And it came to pass that in December 2010, two Palestinian shepherds left their little town near Bethlehem and set out to walk ten miles across the Judean Hills. There in the forest, they kept watch by night. The following day, at about the 6th hour (3pm) the shepherds saw two women walking along the Israel National Trail. With great fervour they took out their knives and attacked the women.
While shepherds held the girls that day and pinned them to the ground, their serrated blades glinted in the sun, shining all around. With knives to their throats, the women dare not move.
‘Fear not,’ said the men – for mighty dread had seized the women’s troubled minds – ‘we bring you good news that will cause great joy for our people.’ What could these glad tidings be? Rape, a robbery, a beating? Anything was better than death the women pondered in their hearts.

I have given much thought to the events of that terrible day, that culminated in my near murder and the execution of my friend. I believe that I of all people could be forgiven for hating Palestinians. I believe too that I could be forgiven for thinking all Palestinians are terrorists. I do not. On the contrary I have maintained relationships with my Palestinian friends, so that my ignorance will not give me reason to hate. I hate hatred. It is your hatred, in the form of a Christmas stunt, that has compelled me to write.
I would like to think that as Christians, you would never condone Kristine Luken’s heinous murder or the attack on myself. I suspect however that you may rationalise this savagery as an inevitable result of the “Israeli occupation.”
You would probably suggest that the Palestinians who murdered my friend were themselves victims who grew up in depravity. I would concur but would point out that if poverty was the case, the aristocrats who flew into the twin towers had no reason to commit their crimes.
The Palestinian terrorists were indeed victims, victims of a radical and primitive Islamic regime that force feeds them a morally malnourished diet of hatred of Jews and hatred of any life – including their own. They were also deprived: deprived of an education that cherishes culture, history, literature, art and the dignity of difference. Their impoverished morality coupled with ignorant generalisations is what enabled two men to butcher defenceless women without so much as blinking an eye.
Your “wall” that you have erected outside your church, is hopefully just a result of your own ignorance and generalisations concerning the complex situation here in the Middle East. Nevertheless, like all walls, it serves as a facade and a barrier.
If your wall was scrutinised, one would see that underneath the whitewashed surface that concerns itself with Israeli policies, there are blocks of anti-Semitism. These bricks stand high. They raise expectations from an entire people group. This wall precedes to separate the nation of Israel as non-desirable.
Your wall is cemented together by a superior theology that tells it’s people that G-d gave up on the Jews. This is the same theology that lies behind radical Islam. G-d tried the Jews, then the Christians but ultimately it was the Muslims who He ultimately chose.
Your wall, is just one brick in a global wall of an Islamic agenda, an agenda that will stop at nothing until the destruction of the Jewish State. To your own cultural detriment, it is a wall that obstructs truth and ultimately seeks not only to destroy Israel but every Judeo-Christian society.

Millions of palestinians may be situated behind a wall and face checkpoints, but that is because they foment and support terrorism — vicious, unbelievably cruel acts specifically targeting civilians, often women and children. Far from being a last minute addition, the Israeli Embassy were one of the first people, in the person of the ambassador, to be invited to join the panel. In fact, although neither could make it, Ambassador Taub was invited before I wrote to Ambassador Hassassian. You may recall I emailed you at the beginning of December to ask for Chas Newkey-Burden’s contact details as I was very keen for him to speak.
In terms of corrections, the other point to make is that it is Lucy Winkett rather than Julie. The rain did not make for good acoustics last night I guess.
People are welcome to write whatever they like on the wall, ask whatever questions they like at the panel discussion and Q&A after the film screening. We’ve made that clear in all our invitations and discussions with, among others the Board of Deputies (though this is not to suggest they were content). I hope people will take part and listen to one another, rather than retreat into fixed positions that brook no challenge as so many of the respondents here appear to have done.

The reference I made to the invitation to join the panel extended to the Ambassador was in order to correct Richard’s impression that it was a last minute addition. More importantly it was a genuine one. This event on 4th January is the only in depth discussion of the festival. As such we always wanted balance to be maintained.
There are three audiences for such an evening: those sympathising primarily with Israel, those sympathising mainly with the Palestinians – and those who know of the issue, have concern about what it does to human lives and want to know more. Those are the people I am concerned with most. I don’t agree that participation implies endorsement, except perhaps for that event itself – and I’m very pleased that both the Israeli Embassy (though not the ambassador) and BICOM have accepted our invitation to speak. Initially the ambassador was willing to give a lecture but not partake in a panel discussion (I understand that he prefers to engage with audiences in this way and there was nothing exceptional about his response to our invitation) but in some detailed discussions with staff at the London embassy, we were able to reassure them that the playing field on the night would be a level one and on that basis they were happy to participate.
Neither the festival nor myself are anti Israel. Personally I would describe myself as one of those much criticised liberal Zionists: Israel not only has a right to exist but its existence is as virtuous and as problematic as that of any other nation state, from the UK to the Lithuania to South Sudan – and, in the future, of a free Palestine alongside a secure Israel. My strong belief is that these two latter ideas are only realisable in tandem.

The majority of Christians are not aware that there is a 2013-years-old brutal Judaic war against Christmas, and against all that it represents. Christianity is a total contradiction to Judaism and to the Jewish way of life. Judaism, in its present form, is a racist, elitist, supremacist, chauvinist, discriminative, vengeful, intolerant, militarily genocidal, colonialist, enslaving, criminal, hate ideology, while Christianity is a religion of love, peace, equality, forgiveness, and compassion. Christianity is the nullification of Judaism.
Judaism is extremely anti-Christian. Jewish war against Christianity has been the longest religious war ever; extending a period of two millennia and is still going on. Jesus Christ, himself, was the first victim of this war. Jewish Sanhedrin (high court) sentenced him to death and had crucified him. Yet his teachings had spread all over the world and had been adopted as the official religion of many states.

The declaration contains statements that Jesus Christ, his mother and his apostles were Jews, and that the Church had its origin in the Old Testament. It denies that the Jews may be held collectively responsible for Christ’s death, called the Jews “most beloved” by God, and that Jews “carried a special holiness.” In 1988 Pope John Paul II claimed that “Jews are our elder brothers in the faith” and later he stated that “Judaism is a response to God’s revelation in the Old covenant.” In 1995 Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago blamed the Gospel of John for “inciting anti-Semitism.” Finally the first act by Pope Francis was the June 2013 “Creation, Un-Creation, Re-Creation” Judeo-centric art exhibit extolling the Jews as “God’s Chosen People” rather than centering on Jesus Christ, whom the Jews murdered. The Jewish “Times of Israel” commented that “the Vatican is presenting an exhibit inspired by the first book of the Torah, rather than by a New Testament them.”
False convert Jews had also infiltrated empires and most powerful countries and occupied high political offices through bribery, debt, and intimidation. Those false convert Jews instigated the two world wars during the 20th centuries to devastate Christian Europe, and to eventually create Israel on usurped Palestinian land. Communist Jews instigated the Russian Revolution and devastated Russian Christians destroying churches and confiscating church properties through the collectivization process. Many Christian leaders were either executed or sent to the Gulag prisons. Due to the fact that the United States was founded on Christianity and an estimated 86% of Americans are Christians, the Jews like to wage their war against Christmas behind the scenes as not to increase the awareness of their role in destroying the cohesiveness of this Christian country especially after they had controlled American economy, the media, the educational system, the politicians and American foreign policy. Very few Americans are even aware that there is a Jewish war; organized and financed primarily by Jewish organizations, against Christmas and American Christian culture and tradition. These organizations include American Jewish Committee, American Jewish Congress, Jewish Anti-Defamation League, and Jewish led and financed ACLU. They misinterpret the First Amendment of freedom of religion to support the separation of church and state issue and put it at the top of their political agenda as stated on the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs website (www.jcpa.org). In their attempt to marginalize Christianity Jewish rabbis and educators claim that the display of Christmas symbols, Christmas carols, and Christian classes exhibit “a lack of sensitivity”to those of other religions (2% Jews). Meanwhile the Jews are flagrantly raising their Menorah even on public land right in the face of other religions (86% Christians).
The First Amendment of freedom of religion was intended to restrain the Congress from favoring any Christian sect over another as the official religion of all America. This was expressed by George Washington statement: “True religion affords government its surest support. The future of this nation depends on the Christian training of our youth. It is impossible to govern without the Bible.” The American government was meant to rule by the teachings of the Christian Bible. The display of Christmas symbols, the Christmas carols and Christian classes are actually guaranteed and protected by the First Amendment.
Extremist and powerful Jewish organizations did not relent. They orchestrated political campaigns and filed law suits and under the justification of “protecting the religious neutrality of the schools and other public places” had succeeded in banning any display of Christmas symbols and singing of Christmas carols in public schools. Yet New York’s mayor Bloomberg and the school’s chancellor, Joel Klein – both Jews – allowed the display of Jewish menorah in New York’s 1,200 public schools while denied Christmas nativity display, falsely claiming that the menorah is a secular not a religious symbol.
The Jewish campaign was so successful that the Christmas cross erection at the White House was banned, but the erection of the largest menorah was allowed across the White House on public land. While the Christmas tree and the cross are symbols of love and peace, the Jewish menorah is a symbol of a brutal culture of war commemorating Jewish military victory over their enemy.
In their attempt to marginalize Christmas Hanukkah and Kwanzaa festivities were introduced and celebrated during the month of December as rivals to Christmas. Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the Jewish Maccabean revolt against the Seleucid Empire of the second century BC and is observed end of November and beginning of December. Kwanzaa, first created in 1966/67, is a week-long celebration honoring African heritage in African-American culture and is observed from December 26th to January 1st culminating in feast and gift-giving.
These three festivities have been turned into a month-long consumer orgy. Christmas symbols have been turned into conditioned stimuli to produce buying and money spending responses. Wrapped gifts had replaced nativity displays under Christmas trees. Christmas carols have been replaced with commercial advertisements. Shops are conditioned to consider Christmas as the most business profitable event of the year. Sale events had conditioned people to head to the malls rather than to churches, and to buy many gifts using credit cards to fatten the mainly Jewish financial institutions, who charge higher interest fees in these occasions.
Due to the “coincidentally” occurrence of the three festivities, and under the justification of cultural neutrality and religious tolerance the “merry Christmas” greeting was turned into “happy holidays”. Even the name “Christmas” has been mutilated to become “Xmas”; omitting the Christ name from “Christmas” and replacing it with the letter “X” meaning deleted, omitted.
In its war against Christianity and against Christmas within the US, Judaism seems to gain the upper hand. Christian symbols, Christmas nativity displays, and Christian classes are being banned in public properties within a mainly Christian country, while large Jewish symbols are permitted to be prominently displayed. Jewish rabbis are praying in churches and preaching of a false divine covenant with a privileged chosen people. Also note article 7 of the Palestine mandate.

Britain was given the Palestine mandate to govern that new Country until such times as it could stand on its own two feet so to speak

Reading comprehension is a problem for you. Israel was created within the frontiers of the plan. That’s a fact. No one said these would be the border of the state. Then the Arabs attacked and lost. That’s when Israel could have acquired borders. Arabs rejected it again and the Green line remained a cease-fire line. Attacked several times and 67 became the new cease-fire lines. Apart from Sinai and Golan heights, these were the legal frontiers of the Jewish territories of Mandate’s promise.

Jordan annexed Judea Samaria (therefore, it was Jordan) and Egypt kept Gaza as a dirty refugee camp until they got forced out in 1967. Never did they try to improve anything there, nor do they do it today, and with good reason.

As a CofE member I despair of this church. I wrote to them a few Christmases ago after another of their stunts. I’m afraid your emails will have no effect. I must be careful about generalizing, but there’s a great depth – perhaps even profundity about modern British anti-Semitism. I am still haunted by the 8 or 9-year-old who I met while coming out of a swimming pool, when I was of a similar age. He explained to me that he hated Jews. So if Mary and Joseph were around to day, they would not be able to get to Bethlehem to give birth to ‘Jesus’ because a wall would prevent them right? First of all Mary was called Miriam and Joseph was called Yosef or ‘Yossi for short.
They’re right, Miriam and Yossi, wouldn’t have gotten as far as Bethlehem if they were around today. They would have been stopped by Israeli soldiers who would have warned them that as orthodox Jews it was TOTALLY UNSAFE for them to venture into Bethlehem. Had they continued they would probably have been stoned by children under the orders of adult Palestinians. Stoning a pregnant woman would be seen as a bonus, as we saw many times before the wall was erected.
The soldiers, upon noticing that Miriam was pregnant would have simply called an ambulance and had her and Yossi shipped to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem where at least they would both be safe. If Yossi and Miriam had insisted on going to Bethlehem, then I’m sure that God would have moved the soldiers into providing them with an armed guard to ensure the safe arrival of His Son. Such is the situation today. Perhaps Western Christians would do well to ask why has the Christian population left Bethlehem? They too did not feel safe and not because of Jews like Yossi, Miriam and their son who incidentally was called Yeshua…

Besides, it is factually wrong to limit right of return to religious Jews. A number of them are atheists and there is also a fair proportion of non-Jews.

Last night , a somewhat peeved Justin Butcher appeared at the church gates ordering us not to block the entrance . I had to politely remind him we were standing on a public right of way and his authority ended at those gates . He seemed the type who likes to get his own way and was obviously put out that it wasn’t happening for him this time . He should be thankful we are not as crazed as some of his fellow activists who disrupt Israels finest .

The lost cause is this particular church which has opted to take a partisan and highly politicised role . It totally ignores Israels years of the Intifada when Palestinian psychopaths were crossing an open border in order to explode themselves killing and maiming as many Israelis in the process . On their poster board outside the church is written ‘ Israels ‘stated’ position is one of security . The inference being that there is something else other than security behind the wall . It’s subtle but ultimately transparent in its meaning . It’s simply a disgrace that this church has placed Palestinian suffering of inconvenience before Jewish suffering of acts of unprecedented barbarism over a a sustained 7 year period .
How tragic that the wall was not already in place thus avoiding the loss of so many precious lives .
I personally feel that unless the Church does something concrete to distance itself from the abomination which is taking place in one of their churches , Community relations will take a turn for the worse . I’m sure that the people behind this effort will view that as a useful extra to their strategy .

The wall at this church is nothing more or less than a manifestation of anti-Semitism, Jew hatred, preached in the churches of Europe for centuries. How ironic that these churches have as their religion the worship of a Jew, Jesus, and veneration for his Jewish mother, Mary. If Jesus and Mary were alive today, they would support the existence of this security barrier which has worked to keep out the maniacal Arab suicide bombers who had killed thousands prior to the wall’s existence.

I have just received a copy of one of the resolutions for the ADM of the NUJ, which I want to send to you. Please send me an email address.
In the past, these viciously anti-Israel resolutions were quashed because even journalists who were not particularly pro-Israel realised that for the NUJ to pass a resolution expressing such strong bias was not journalistically acceptable. Of course, if the resolution passes, I shall resign and so will lots of other journalists.
